While our regular daycare starts at age 16 weeks, Play All Day also offers a daycare option for puppies aged 8-16 weeks old. Puppy Kindergarten (Puppy K) is a safe option for people who work away from the home and for people who are considering a training program for their puppy. Puppies enrolled in this program will have a designated space separate from the adult daycare dogs for physical and psychological safety. Here is what our Puppy K program offers:

  • A safe place to leave your puppy while you work
  • Plenty of rest periods throughout the day
  • Opportunities for structured and safe socialization with other dogs, new people, new spaces, and new experiences
  • Assistance with potty -training
  • Crate training
  • Basic obedience, including Impulse control training (polite greetings and not charging through open doors)
  • Introduction to positive grooming experiences (nails, brushing, and baths)
  • A great head start to participating in regular daycare when old enough and learning puppy play skills with their classmates

Benefits of Puppy Kindergarten

Aside from the benefit of not having to spend long days at home alone in a crate, Puppy K offers many other benefits.  All services included, at no extra cost.

Socialization:

Anyone with a puppy hears about the importance of socialization.  And yes, it is important!  Unfortunately, there are not a lot of opportunities for safe socialization.  Puppy K can help.

  • Your puppy will be exposed to new people throughout the day, with supervision from our staff to make sure that they are not overwhelmed
  • Puppy classmates allow for dog/dog socialization opportunities.  And once your puppy has more vaccines on board and when they show they are ready emotionally, they will be introduced to appropriate older dogs that are a part of our daycare.  All of these interactions will be supervised and managed to make sure your puppy is comfortable and safe.
  • Our daycare is big and offers many opportunities for safe exploration.  Supervised “field trips” to other parts of our building and property offers socialization opportunities to new environments.
  • Socialization should also include providing experiences that will stretch your puppy’s brain.  Puzzle toys and games are just the way to stretch the imagination and learn new skills

Training:

You may have considered a Board & Train option or Puppy Classes for your puppy so that they will learn manners and become a good citizen in your home and out in public.  Training is very important, and puppies are little sponges when it comes to learning.  The period between 8 – 16 weeks is a great time to start training.  We use positive reinforcement training techniques, with low stress learning.

Your puppy will learn the following while at Puppy K:

  • Polite greetings. Your puppy will learn that sitting and waiting for attention is more successful than jumping on people for attention.
  • Impulse control. Learning that bolting through doors and gates is not appropriate behavior will make your life less stressful and will keep your puppy safe.
  • Basic Obedience. The basic skills of Sit and Down will be taught
  • Name Recognition and Response. This is the foundation skill of coming when called, even when distracted.
  • Crate Manners. Our goal is for a crate to be a positive tool that can be used for short periods of time when a puppy is resting or needs to be left alone.  We will work with your puppy to make crate time as enjoyable as possible.

Safety is always a priority at our daycare.  But with puppies, safety takes on a new meaning.  We not only need to consider their safety when playing with other dogs.  Puppies have other safety considerations.  We’ve been providing daycare since 2011 and we are experts in recognizing and managing these safety considerations.
